Concierge medicine, a health care model that allows patients to pay monthly, bi-annual, or annual fees to see physicians, is gaining popularity, especially among those who have been hit hardest by the economic downturn triggered by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr. Michael Seavers, who heads Harrisburg University’s Healthcare Informatics Program, likens concierge medicine to “a type of retainer model” of care similar to agreements clients enter into with lawyers who provide legal services for a flat fee, rather than charging by the hour.

Seavers recently weighed in on emergence of concierge medicine in a U.S. News & World Report article titled, “What is Concierge Medicine?”
